Frederick Benest

Educated at Victoria College, Jersey, Frederick Benest was called to the Bar as an Advocate of the Royal Court on the 3rd October 1977. Advocate Benest is the Senior Partner at Benest & Syvret and has a wide experience of private client work dealing with conveyancing, estates, local commercial work, civil litigation and criminal work. Advocate Benest has four children, the eldest of whom, Advocate Nina Benest, is a partner of this firm.

Philip Syvret

Educated at Victoria College, Jersey, and a Bachelor of Law of the University of London. Philip Syvret was later admitted as a Solicitor of the Royal Court on the 14th July 1994, exactly 28 years following his father's admission. Mr Syvret previously drew experience from working with another local firm for several years prior to his admission and now deals with all aspects of litigation, local commercial work and matrimonial matters. He is currently a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Solicitors Family Law Association. Mr Syvret advises a number of local property development firms and is one of the Island's leading conveyancing lawyers. A member of the Jersey Consumer Council for many years, Mr Syvret is also currently a member of the Jersey Law Society Committee and the Rules Sub-Committee which makes submissions in relation to subordinate legislation before its registration by the Royal Court. Mr Syvret has been appointed by the States of Jersey to be Deputy Chairman of the Health and Safety appeals tribunal.

Nina Benest

Nina Benest was educated at Jersey College for Girls following which she spent a year in the Law and Social Sciences Faculty at the University of Caen, France where she became the first student from Jersey to attain the Certificat des Etudes Juridiques Françaises et Normandes. From there she went to the University of Kent at Canterbury where she completed her law degree, before attending the Inns of Court School of Law in London where she undertook her Bar Vocational Course. A member of Middle Temple, Miss Benest was called to the English Bar in 1996. Miss Benest returned to Jersey and worked at another local law firm before joining Benest and Syvret at its inception on 1st October 1997. Miss Benest was called to the Jersey Bar as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey on 19th August 1999. Advocate Benest undertakes all aspects of civil and criminal litigation, matrimonial and general family work as well as business and conveyancing matters. She is currently the Secretary of the Jersey Family Law Association and a member of the Jersey Personal Injury Medico-Legal Society.

Page top Françoise Binet LL.M (BUCKS), ENGLISH SOLICITOR

Francoise Binet

Educated at St Michael's School and then Taunton School, Somerset, Miss Binet then spent a year studying French and Italian at the University of London. She went on to gain both her law degree and a Masters in International and Commercial Law from the University of Buckingham. From there she became a member of Lincoln's Inn before completing the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. She was called to the English Bar in 1997 and has since gained some twelve years' experience in both the City of London and locally. In 2002 she cross-qualified as an English Solicitor. Her principal field of expertise is that of family law, dealing with all aspects of divorce, matrimonial finance matters and children issues. Miss Binet is a member of the Jersey Family Law Association.

Giles Emmanuel

Educated at De La Salle College, Jersey and a Bachelor of Law and Business attained at Solent University. Following attendance at the College of Law, London, Giles Emmanuel was admitted as a Solicitor of England and Wales in March 2011 at which time he joined Benest & Syvret. From 1999 Mr Emmanuel previously worked at another Jersey law firm and has gained over twelve years experience of a wide variety of private client and commercial work including civil litigation, criminal, corporate, personal injury, employment, land, family, wills, licensing, trust, funds and banking law. Mr Emmanuel is shortly due to commence studying towards the Jersey Law Course.

Paul Deveau

Educated at Hautlieu School, Jersey, Mr Deveau has more than 30 years experience in residential and commercial sales, purchases and leases, along with mortgage and re-mortgage work and has been responsible for the production of comprehensive documents for numerous large residential development sites. Mr Deveau was also one of the founding members of the Jersey Association of Property Conveyancers and continues to serve on the Committee of that body.

Nigel Rault

Educated at De La Salle College, Jersey, Mr Rault joined Becquet & Syvret as Office Manager in 1983, following ten years experience with the local Income Tax Authority, having previously worked in a legal environment for six years. He remained with the firm as it became Benest & Syvret in 1997. Mr Rault has considerable experience in local taxation and accountancy procedures and attends to all aspects of Probate and Estate Management. He is currently a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Page top Kenneth Syvret MBE SOLICITOR (CONSULTANT)

Kenneth Syvret

Educated at Victoria College, Jersey, he was later admitted as a Solicitor of the Royal Court on the 14th July 1966. Former President of the Jersey Law Society, he is now one of the Island's senior Solicitors. He is presently Chairman of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Greffier of the Ecclesiastical Court, President of the Maison des Landes Trust and Chairman of the Genuine Jersey Group which promotes local agricultural products. He is a former President of the National Trust for Jersey, former Vice Chairman of the Heritage Trust and a past President of the Lions Club of Jersey. He was awarded an M.B.E. in June 1996 for local charitable services. Mr Syvret is a former Deputy of St Ouen.
